The history of Dry Bottom Farms and Nursery

Dry Bottom Farms & Nursery was planted long before it became what it is today. It all started when Charles Harris decided to put a row of watermelons and pumpkins in the ground. His great nephew Aaron — more like a grandson than a nephew — was by his side helping to tend those plants and selling them when harvest came. Little did Charles know, the seeds he sowed that year would become the beginning of what is now Dry Bottom Farms & Nursery.

As Aaron grew up, he moved away from the family farm to attend college. While studying agricultural education, he realized during his internship that teaching wasn’t the path he wanted to pursue. At the same time, he had the opportunity to move back to the family farm, and a bigger vision began to take root. Aaron started expanding what his great uncle began — adding more produce, more pumpkins, and more plants to grow the farm into something lasting.

During those college years, Aaron also met his wife Emily. The two married and built their life on the family farm. Not long after, Charles passed away, and Aaron and Emily took over the farm that meant so much to them both.

Since then, Dry Bottom Farms & Nursery has slowly and steadily evolved into what it is today, a family run greenhouse and farm filled with flowers, plants, produce, animals, and memories. Alongside our nursery, we also manage a small cow-calf operation, staying true to our roots as a diversified family farm.

Dry Bottom Farms & Nursery is more than just a place to shop, it’s a place to grow, to gather, and to carry forward the legacy Charles began with a simple row of watermelons and pumpkins.
